These non-traditional burgers are baked in a muffin tin and served over bread.
1 lb ground round
1 cup chopped onions
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup grated cheese
Yellow or Dijon mustard to taste
1 tsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
18 slices bread
Butter or olive oil
Combine all ingredients except bread and butter or oil and mix thoroughly. Trim crusts off bread slices and either spread butter or brush olive oil on one side of the bread. Place bread, buttered side down, in muffin tins and shape to fit tin. Fill bread “cups” with meat mixture. Bake at 350° F for 40 minutes or until beef reaches an internal temperature of 160° F on a meat thermometer. Serve warm with ketchup and additional mustard (as desired).
